I guess a recap of the past few weeks is in order. I finished my substitute teacher training class last week. I can't say that I really learned anything new, but I guess I now have the resources to find information if I should need it later. Mostly I just had to be present in this class for 20 hours and watch a bunch of sexual harassment and workplace safety videos. It should take another week or two for all of the paperwork to be finalized and for me to be added to the official sub list. But from what I am told, its not unlikely that I will get to work a few days before this school year is out. There is nothing over the summer, of course, but at least I will have a little experience. There is also something called Teacher Interview Day coming up, where the principals from all local school get together in the civic center and just hold interviews for eight hours straight. So I need to check that out.
Adam and I spent the past few days in Atlanta. It's time to make some major life decisions for us. It's not completely back to the drawing board, but it won't be simple, either.
We managed to have a little fun while we were in Atlanta. Sunday night we went to a fantastic Japanese restaurant. We ate outside on the garden patio, which was quite cute. The picture above is the view I had looking up from my seat. I had three of my favorite foods ... gyoza, octopus, and grilled squid. Oh it was so good!! That night Adam and I were watching TV at the hotel, and came across Anthony Bourdain's new show on the Travel Channel. He was in Osaka, eating ... and eating, and eating, and eating, and ... I think he must have a tapeworm or something. Anyway, we must go to Osaka! The sooner, the better. There are these things called Takoyaki (no clue on the spelling, ask Adam), which are basically grilled octopus meatballs. They looked so good, I was practically drooling. [Edit: I just described these to Eric, and he did not seem to think they sounded tasty. Why ever not? Eh.]Monday, we went to downtown Atlanta and walked around Centennial Olympic Park for a little while, and then went to the Georgia Aquarium. (Check out the photo blog for pictures.) For dinner that night, we went to this great restaurant that was a little fancier than we anticipated. It was inside of a mall, so I thought nothing of walking inside in jeans ... until we sat down. But whatever, it was delicious. Adam ordered the biggest appetizer he could find ... the tower of seafood. Literally, a tower. And we got yummy, yummy steaks. And an assortment of sorbets for dessert.
Tuesday I spent a little while at the big, fancy mall, which had some very cool stores. I really love shopping. That's such a girl thing, I know, but I really do love it. It's so fun!
Ok, and that brings us up to the present. I guess not too much has happened lately, it just seems like I have been busy nonstop. But anyway, I'm back to blogging. Rob and I discussed starting a group blog for story writing, and I hope that we can get that up and running soon.
